The recent release of Tourism Research Australia’s National Visitor Survey figures shows an increase in spending and stays for Domestic Overnight Visitors within our state.
In the year to June 30 2011, spending by domestic overnight visitors was up 6% to $13.1 Billion in New South Wales, of which 62% or $8.2B was spent in regional New South Wales and 38%, $4.9B in Sydney. The Mid North Coast region of New South Wales attributed $1.5 Billion to the State’s expenditure, the second highest figure in regional Australia.
New South Wales continued to receive the highest proportion of overnight domestic visitor stays across the nation and received the highest expenditure for the purpose of a holiday at $6.5 Billion.
These figures indicate a strengthening of our position within New South Wales over the past year. However, we await further data and industry feedback before making any celebratory announcements about an industry turnaround.
