The Tourism Industry Council NSW has recently provided its submission to the Federal Government Independent Review of Enhanced Cruise Ship Access into Sydney’s Garden Island Naval Dockyard.
With the undeniable growth of cruising at a historic level and trajectory, the Council believes that it is imperative that Sydney is able to capitalise upon this growth and be in a strong position to cater for additional demand over the next decade.
The Tourism Industry Council NSW has put together a key issues paper for input into the NSW Government’s Visitor Economy Taskforce.
The ideas and suggestions of the key issues paper flows from a Regional Tourism workshop held to discuss and debate the structure and funding arrangements for regional tourism into the future.
We hope that the key issues paper encourages and enhances debate around the organisational structure of regional tourism and will be used as a basis for ongoing change.

Tourism NSW has releases two new resources for the tourism industry, both available free online at: www.tourism.nsw.gov.au/resources
The Tourism Business Toolkit was designed by Tourism NSW to assist tourism operators at any stage of development. the resources include a guide to understanding the tourism industry as well as practical tips and insights for tourism product development, pricing, promotion and distribution. The toolkit replaces the former StartSmart guide with new information and significant updates and enhancements.
NSW continues to be the number one State for total visitor nights, visitor numbers and visitor expenditure. We’ve also experienced strong growth in market share in the holiday segment.
The full range of International visitor data for Australia for 2010 is now available and provides some interesting insights into the change in the flow of visitors to Sydney.
It is also worth looking at how Sydney’s markets share against our key competitors Victoria and Queensland has changed.
In looking at these figures we have chosen to focus on Sydney and not NSW. In contrast to Victoria, NSW is fortunate to have a serious flow of business that comes into the State from over our Northern border at Coolangatta/Tweed Heads. Therefore, a simple NSW verses Victoria comparison doesn’t give an accurate understanding for the large sector of business dealing in Sydney and its regional surrounds with inbound visitors.
